Herbert D. Ely, educated primarily in Illinois and East Tennessee, spent time with the U.S. Air Force, which included being stationed within the Strategic Air Command—Underground. After the military, he served in management and executive positions in the cement and the armored car / ATM industries. Mr. Ely has resided for the past forty years in Arizona near Superstition Mountain. This has resulted in a keen interest in the legends of the Southwest, including the Lost Dutchman Mine and the Peralta Massacre. He was certainly not the first, but was one of the very few who have located and visited the Lost Dutchman Mine.
