Steve and Joan have been an item for a long time. They attended Line Mountain High School, where they became friends before graduation in 1970. Steve and Joan were quite fortunate in the respect that they both had the opportunity to attend college, which was uncommon at that time. They were some of the first of their families to do so. Steve is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, and Joan, an alumnus of Susquehanna University. They married in 1975 and moved to Rough and Ready. Their home location was approximately halfway between their parents’ residences. They remain in this location in Rough and Ready after 45 years. They consider it fortunate to be able to reside in the valley that they grew up in. Their children, Michael and Valerie, live nearby, as well as extended family and neighbors. This history book is mostly about Steve’s relatives, however, this book would not be possible if it were not for Joan’s computer skills. She is Steve’s typist and manuscript advisor.
Steve and Joan have authored several family and local history books. They enjoy family reunions and like to promote local historical education. Their two granddaughters, Emma, 11, and Leah, 9, live nearby, give their lives purpose, and their presence encourages Steve and Joan to pass on to others of the next generation a knowledge of their heritage found here in the Mahantongo Valley.
