Sunbury Press Author FAQs: What to Know About the Publishing Process, Orders, and Royalties
At Sunbury Press, we value clear communication with our authors. To help answer common questions about publishing timelines, author copies, royalties, and promotions, we’ve compiled this Author FAQ as a helpful resource.
We encourage all authors to review this information before reaching out, as many frequently asked questions are addressed below.
How long does the publishing process take (on average) from submission to print?
As a general industry expectation, authors should anticipate approximately one year from manuscript submission to printed book.
While timelines can vary depending on editing requirements, production scheduling, cover design, and other logistical factors, planning for a one-year timeline helps set realistic expectations for the full publishing journey.

-

How many complimentary author copies do I receive?
Each author receives three (3) complimentary copies of their book.
When will I receive my complimentary author copies?
Complimentary copies are not automatically shipped.
Many authors choose to include their three complimentary copies with their first book order. If doing so, please include a note in your order specifying that you would like your free copies included.
If you prefer to receive your complimentary copies separately, please email:
orders@sunburypress.com
Include:
-
Your name
-
Book title
-
Shipping address
-
A note indicating the request is for your complimentary author copies
When are royalty statements issued?
Royalty statements are issued quarterly on the following schedule:
-
January 31 (Q4)
-
April 30 (Q1)
-
July 31 (Q2)
-
October 31 (Q3)
I received a royalty statement but not a check. Why?
Royalty checks are issued once accrued royalties reach $100 or more.
Checks are mailed approximately fifteen days after quarterly royalty statements are distributed.
If your royalties have not yet reached the $100 minimum threshold, they will continue to accrue until that amount is met.
I have a signing event soon. Can I get books quickly?
We strongly recommend allowing a minimum of three weeks of lead time for book orders.
Wholesale orders are typically prioritized below consumer retail orders, and we rely on the production capacity of our printer partners. For events, signings, or appearances, advance planning is essential to avoid last-minute challenges.
If you only need a few copies quickly, you may consider purchasing books at retail price. Retail orders receive higher processing priority, and you will earn royalties on those copies.
If you have an urgent event-related question, please contact us directly.
What is the KDP Free Book Promotion?
The KDP Free Book Promotion is a temporary marketing tool available through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform.
This program allows us to offer your Kindle eBook for free download to Kindle Unlimited members for a limited number of days (typically five) during a promotional window.
The promotion is used strategically to:
-
Increase visibility on Amazon
-
Boost download numbers
-
Improve category rankings
-
Introduce your book to new readers
-
Potentially generate post-promotion paid sales and reviews
During the promotional period:
-
Kindle Unlimited readers can download your eBook at no cost.
-
Increased visibility may positively impact long-term sales performance.
After the promotional window ends, the book returns to its regular retail price.
This tool is used selectively as part of broader marketing efforts and is often coordinated around book series launches, award announcements, seasonal campaigns, or other promotional strategies.
