The fight of the century

I’m one of those TCM (Turner Classic Movies) aficionados. Yes, give me B&W please (most of the time). Until, well, when I came across ‘SAND’ (the book, not the movie), I was dazzled by its ‘color’ and storyline. A comic book for adults. Within a few pages I was captured. Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp entertaining us – with a cameo appearance by Doc Holliday. Hold on! Who else is here? Jack Dempsey and the fight of the century! Charlie Chaplin. Ernest Hemingway. Scott Fitzgerald. Damon Runyon. William Randolph Hearst. Jack London. John Ford (for once without the ‘Duke’!). The KKK. The black Irish in green T-shirts, The dawn of the Woman’s suffrage movement. The heroine of the Roaring 20s, Lovella Parsons. A must read. Terribly entertaining. Don’t forget key words – mobster, speakeasy, flashy, new era, jazz, ragtime, and – style + substance.
