How does a 31-year-old cocktail waitress and soon-to-be-divorced mother of five get swept off her feet by a 65-year-old heir to Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and global financier J. P. Morgan?

As an orphaned teenager, Hamilton wrote, “I mean to prepare the way for futurity.”  Now, 250 years later, we see that this self-proclaimed prophecy was fulfilled through skill, persistence, and determination. Hamilton helped George Washington and others build the foundation for the United States of America and ensured its sustainability.

Thanks to coauthors Mary Anne Hamilton and Helena Reynolds, this story reveals new insights. After Laurens Morgan Hamilton met waitress Mary Anne Clark in 1965, he returned the next day—her day off—and declared to her coworkers and patrons, “I’m going to marry that girl.” When she discovered his brash announcement, she was appalled. But he was determined.

During their unlikely marriage (1966 until he died in 1978), Mary Anne observed Laurens’ fervent wish to revive his great-great-grandfather’s legacy. Fifty years later, after seeing Hamilton on Broadway, Mary Anne finally understood the depth of her late husband’s passion. She tried to fulfill it in 2016, learning and traveling as a Hamilton advocate at 82. When COVID struck, she started writing her stories to share her research.

Far from a typical memoir, this book includes 90 Hamilton facts, over 70 images, and numerous QR codes, enabling readers to view online clips. Our goal: “To educate and unite our nation in a way that would make Alexander Hamilton proud.”
